Upcoming Events for Summer 2021

Hello everyone! We are excited to share some upcoming events for Summer of 2021!

First of all, we are very happy to announce that we will be presenting at the 8th International Degrowth Conference in August! We will be reflecting on the events that we have held on Blue Growth vs. Degrowth. If you attended those events or would like to join the conversation for the first time, WE ARE HOSTING A WORKSHOP/ IDEA SESSION!

Idea Session Details

Date: June 17, 2021

Time: 8am Pacific

Goals: Brainstorm and discuss ideas for how marine energy and other ocean-use areas of study/development can learn from and adopt ideas from degrowth and ecological economics

Details: Our first two sessions were focused on investigating the overlaps and conflicts between “blue growth” and “degrowth.” Now, we want to reflect inward and apply what we have learned and discussed to our own work and the field of renewable energy more generally! This will be a highly interactive session!

Resources: Live document with resources available here

RSVP on our Events Page!

Next, we will be launching a collaborative project for marine renewable energy researchers and professionals. The kick-off meeting will be in mid-July to early August.

A short abstract for the project

Ecologies of Marine Renewable Energy

The goal of this project is to complete a multi-chapter (or section) work that highlights and explores connections between marine renewable energy and the ecological crisis including; our changing oceans, equity and justice, environmental impacts of climate change, food and water security, changing electric grid and market, democracy, resilience, ecological economics, and decolonial practice. We aim to empower and inform folks interested in marine renewable energy on ways they can pursue projects in science, engineering, policy, and other disciplines which address the ecological crisis.

If you are interested in learning more or and maybe joining the project, please fill out this interest form and feel free to reach out at riverstonerenewables@gmail.com with comments or ideas.

We envision a project lasting 12-24 months.

Finally, in July we will have our first listening and discussion session! If you want to hang out, listen to a solid podcast, and chat about it with others, put July 15, 2021 in your calendar and register on our events page!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Today we met and talked about one of the major topics of COP26, climate finance! We asked, what is it? What are the problems associated with it? What are different groups saying about it? Thank you to
